Help, should I get a clerical (when I have little skills) or a research position (not guaranteed for the entire year) for work/study? My allotment is only $1500.

If the whole $1500 is important to your financial situation - then I would suggest the clerical type position - otherwise you may short yourself.

But then again - if the research position is important to your major or anything like that - consider the research position.

Your choice!!

Clerical jobs can give you a good foundation for later employment; research can too. I suggest a pro/con list for the now and the later. Which pays more? Which requires more "work"? Which one will benefit you more in the long run? Which do you think you would enjoy more (it helps!)? et cetera.

My allotment per quarter is $500.

If my job is only $7.50/hour (I don't think he will give me a raise), how many hours should I work a week so that I won't go over $500 by December?

there's probably not taxes taken out, so just divide 500 dollars by however many weeks there will be, and that tells you can make per week.. then just divide that by 7.50 to get your amount of hours.

I'd say the clerical job.

You can always participate in research on the side, although you may not be paid for it. Check your school's undergraduate research office-often there's grants available for freshmen or sophomores to do research.

hi tenisghs - since your allotment is so low, I would take whichever job pays the most. You're not going to be spending much time there as it is, so you may as well spend the lesser of the two times. As for how many hours, I don't think you can do many more than 6/week.
