I'm a parent who gets workers comp every month. It's untaxed an does not show up on my taxes. How can I avoid getting flagged or verified by fafsa? I'm sure my son will get verified because our taxes only show my wife's income but when we fill out the fafsa they are gonna see my workers comp too. We couldn't afford our house based on our taxes with one income.

Fafsa verification is sometimes random and sometimes targeted. If you include the workers comp as you should in the other untaxed income question and you are chosen for verification it’s not that big of a deal. It will raise your efc as it is considered money that can be used for college expenses. My kids have been verified several times each and you just follow the school’s instructions as to what they need for verification.
