My senior year, I am spending a large chunk of my time working as a Dev for the same company my dad works at. He suggested this position, but I had to go through an interview and do actual work there (though I am sure his standing helped). How will AO’s perceive this? Is it worth putting on my EC list? Conflicted because it’s a large time commitment during which I can’t do other ECs but also, it may look really bad.
How would the AO even know, unless you are working for Kennedy Inc and your last name is Kennedy? Even then, I don’t think it matters that much. List your job requirements with a lot of detail.
Well, don’t you put your parent’s work position in the Family section?
It’s possible they might not even realize the connection. They aren’t looking for this type of thing. Even if they do, it’s not going to look bad. They will realize that your dad probably helped you get the interview, but this really isn’t that uncommon.
Thanks, make me a lot less worried.

Your way over thinking this. They have like 8 minutes on your app or something like that. Many kids parents get them jobs at where they work. You won’t be the only one.
Non-issue (as others have said)
The CC doesn’t let you edit anymore…I will add - what matters most is what you did.
Just like ECs…it’s not the name, it’s the impact, activity you did.
I have to say that I like that you are thinking about this, and not pretending you did it all yourself without help, like some other posters I could name.
It’s okay to accept your parents’ help. What counts is what you did there. But it’s good to be conscious of your privilege and to be aware that another kid, whose parents couldn’t help, might have done as well as you.
Because you are set up to do well in college and in life, and in a few years may be in a position to offer a chance to that kid who didn’t have your opportunities, but might have as much talent.
How do you think the rest of us got our summer jobs?
