Working @ Cornell (asking current students)

How are on and off-campus job opportunities at Cornell?

Nothing big, just kinda want something to bring back every two weeks to ensure I'm not broke half the time

Depending on your interests (science, engineering, humanities, etc.), I would suggest not looking for your typical part time jobs during college (cashier, waiter, bartender, etc.). One of the best things about Cornell is the opportunity for undergraduate research. I would suggest you find a professor and try to get a research assistant position (at Cornell, professors are VERY open to undergradate research). You can do this either for money or credit. If you want extra money, doing the research will help your professional career (jobs/graduate school) as well as give you a few more bucks.

As forgradadvice said, it's pretty easy to pick up research jobs. On campus jobs typically won't pay that much ($7-8/hr).

Hmm...how difficult is it for freshmen to get these jobs without previous experience? And when do you recommend looking for one?

If you are pro-active and sound excited when you speak to the Professors, you will have no problem what-so-ever.

Just look up the research groups on the Cornell Professors web pages and also on the bulliten boards in various departments. The labs also keep posters of there work in front of the entrance to the facilities. Once you have found an interesting lab/research group, just set up an appointment to speak with the Professor in charge.
