Working for a start-up

I've considered working for a start-up post-undergrad. But exactly how does this work? I mean, where do you find "start-ups" that are looking for employers who can handle considerable responsiblity?

I don’t know the best way to find them, but I think the biggest concern would be the risk factor. Yes, you could end up on the next google, but you could also end up on something that just spins its wheels and goes nowhere fast or something that bites the dust. You should really like what the company is about (products or philosophy; whatever gives it an edge) to work for a start up.

Yes, but where do you find this kind of information like their philosophy or anything at all?

Go onto sites of the major venture capital firms and look at their portfolio companies. When you’re young you can take risks, and companies getting funding in this environment have very good ideas/philosophies/employees.

Be sure you to approach them with something to offer. Start-ups can’t afford dead weight or development programs, you need to be the type that can “hit the floor running”.

hmom’s advice on finding them is spot on
