Working in the library.

I missed this day, June 27, 2009.

It was a day when more than 50 applicants or so go to my local library and interview for the job. (pat time page.)

I missed it.

Of course I got P-Oed..... but the librarian gave me a few answers and tips, just in case for the next interview. (I've volunteered at the library for more than 5 years....)

The money part: is $8.49 an hour sufficient to the senior of high school? (i'm fine with it.... minimum is $17 gran per year.... upwards to $22 gran... considering the fact me household doesn't really have a steady job..)

LEMON

Definitely not. I don’t know anyone who survived on less than $12.50

Anything above minimum wage ($8 in Cali) is bank for a high school student.

You should be happy aha.

^ This sucks. GA’s minimum wage is $6.55, which I what I’m being offered while people in CA earn $8. ■■■.

Cost of living difference.

NJ’s minimum wage is $7.15 I believe.

I volunteer at my library nowww, it suckkksssss
Maybe it’ll turn into a part time job someday, but I doubt it. I’ve never seen anyone under the age of 50 working at my library

^same here.
I would be more than happy to get a job like that. I’d accept the job if I were offered it.

I’m sorry, that stinks =(
That sounds like an awesome job, though.

Yeah, if I were offered the job I’d take it in a HEARTBEAT.

… Why don’t you guys work at a bookstore? Aha… That’s what I want to do…

oops grammatical error, I meant, “which is what I’m being…”

I didn’t have a job through high school and survived financially by not really spending anything except for textbooks. So it depends on what you plan on spending/saving for college.

er… i plan to hoard all my money in the mattress. (no, no, I won’t throw away the mattress, like somebody else did…)

Anything you make is helpful - I personally spent about $1600 in my first year at college between food outside a meal plan, dorm supplies, and books. But that’s money that could go to other things you want, helping with tuition, or looking to the future. So it’s certainly “enough,” and you’ll be ahead of the game.

eh, who knows… If I do get the library job anytime soon, the max I will be working is one year.

Anyways, is it true that for wage earners of my age, half of your yearly salary goes to Uncle Sam? (taxes)

Mucho Gracias,
LEMON

If you make less than bracket… then nothing goes to him, other than sales tax… which you really don’t notice anyways since you pay it upfront.

Ummm… Minimum wage here is $5.85. o.O

But then again… you can have a house for like less than 100k. Like my house is four bedrooms/3 baths, 2300 sq. ft… and it’s only worth like 80 or 90k. =/ So the cost of living here is super cheap.

My house is 3 bedrooms 2 bathroom and it was worth $375k when we got it a decade ago. Probably peaked at $900k, and I have no idea where the housing market is now (I guess it barely exists).

= high cost of living

^ Most of America.

Actually most people who move here from the North/West (like California) are really surprised with our market.

Like, our AD said once, he locked himself out of a LOT of great deals, just because where he came from in Cali… You had bullets flying over your head at 200k… whereas here… that’s a normal-ranged nice house.

$200k wouldn’t get you a “shack in the ghetto.”

I got $5 an hour last year, - the 20 minutes gas to get there and the 20 minutes gas to get back.

Now the city is trying to charge me $200~ for taxes, and I only had the job 20 hr/week for like 6 weeks.

Not worth it. It bought me this computer, and as soon as I paid outstanding debts I owed to people, I quit.

As for the 200k comment- I dont actually think Ive seen a house here for that price. They are more in the 5k-30k range, and they are singles in a non bad area? I find that hard to believe about the shack- but maybe im just used to REALLY REALLY cheap houses.
