<p>The author of “The Hand: How Its Use Shapes the Brain, Language, and Human Culture”, Frank R. Wilson, related an experience he had with some company who found their engineers weren’t great problem solvers, though they came from excellent schools. In the end, the company decided only to hire people who had rebuilt carburetors because they found that working with one’s hands correlates to better problem solving skills.</p>
<p>Now, whether your schools appreciate this thinking or not is a big question, but perhaps your best fit will be with a school that does.</p>
<p>There is a book, and it might still be in print, called “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.” It might give you some ideas! (There was another called “Zen and the Art of Archery.” Maybe more?)</p>

If I don’t I’ll be missing out on listing one of my activities/responsibilities: Head tour guide at school. It’s covered in the essay, but I want to make it clear that I’m passionate about it.
