I read in a previous thread that the CCRB is the most accessible for students living in Markley. I was really happy to hear that a gym is so close by! But can someone provide specifics on the how much equipment is in the fitness rooms and time ranges as to when it is least crowded?

Also, I read somewhere that there is also a pool in CCRB. I love to go for a swim after I work out, and I'm willing to wake up early or stay up late, because I prefer to swim in a near-empty pool, so I can do my laps at my own pace and not have to accommodate for others. Does anyone know what days and times are best to visit the pool under these conditions?

By the way, I did some research, and found out that there is a membership fee for the CCRB. This contradicts something I read elsewhere that says students have free access to all gyms on campus. I need someone to expand on this please.

CCRB has pretty amazing (albeit old) equipment. There is no charge for using CCRB, the charge is for using the Ross gym (which is 100 dollars a semester). There are 4-5 squash/racquetball courts, a running track, few basket ball courts, cardio rooms, an abs area and all free weight, machine equipment you would need. The front desk also stores some lifting belts, sports rackets and other equipment that you can rent inexpensively/for free. I only ever worked out in the evenings/late night so between 5-9 ish its quite crowded, then later at night its pretty good.

Sorry but I never used the pool much so I don’t knwo how it is.

If the pool activity is anything like the one at NCRB, it’s most crowded in the afternoons, around 4-6. I used to go around the afternoon (11am - 1pm) and I usually got my own lane or shared with with only one other person. The mornings were a bit more crowded than expected, but still not bad.

nikeyboy3004-Thanks! I think it’s pretty cool they have a racquetball court; I’ve always wanted to try that even though I don’t know how much of a workout I will get out of it. And yeah I think I will avoid the evenings because I prefer less crowded times. But are there showers by the gym or would we use the ones by the pool? I find it hard to believe that people would go back to their dorm drenched it sweat; at least I don’t want to attract attention that way.

be_somebody-Thank you for your response! Unfortunately, I will have classes between 11-1, and there won’t be any time to go for a swim. But how crowded exactly are the mornings? Is it really significant that it would be a nuisance to experienced swimmers? Also, in your opinion, do you think CCRB would most likely be more crowded than NCRB, and if so, how far is it from the Hill to NCRB?

If you live in Markley, you will go to CCRB. NCRB is on North Campus and you need to take a bus to go there. IM Building is on Hoover Street which is a pretty far walk from Markley.

I’ve only gone in the mornings a couple of times, but I shared a lane with maybe one or two other people, so it wasn’t as bad. Yeah, I’m guessing that CCRB pool will probably be more crowded than the NCRB one. NCRB is on North Campus so you probably don’t want to make the trip from Markley.
