I hope some of you guys work out. I want to keep in shape using a simple routine.

I saw the P90X commercials and learned about the plateau effect and the importance of mixing up your routine. But after taking a glimpse of a couple of his videos, I realized that what he meant was for you to complete a million different, ridiculous workouts that he seemed to have pulled out of a hat.

I'm wondering if you can keep in shape just by doing various types of pullups, pushups, and situps. It's simple and basic, and easy to remember.

Idk about p90x. Looking at the commercials it seems like it’s only good at toning your body and cuting fat. It depends on what you’re goals are. The comercials are right in that you need to switch up your routine if you want to see improvement. I lift heavy, do cardio, high reps with low weight once in a while, and switch to different exercises every week. I’m no expert though I’m just talking about what I’ve researched myself and I see improvement in my gains every week. My goal is to gain mass and tone with cardio.

If you’re looking to STAY in shape as in keeping the same body tone you are at now. From my opinion it looks like it will do the job. I havent seen the commercial in a long time but from what I remember I think you do a lot of High intensity interval training which is great in cutting body fat which makes your muscles more defined.

But I haven’t tried this workout. I workout at a gym.

I just realize I didn’t even answer your question. Haha. During bootcamp all we did was pushups, sit ups, pull ups, ran, and a lot of other crazy excersies that the Drill Sargent made us do. You need a lot of motivation because these will work at first but after awhile your body is going to get use to these exercises. There’s guys I graduated Boot Camp with that lost about 50 pounds after this. But like I said we were all put under rigorous all day and night training.

You can try it but nothing beats lifting at the gym. Also cardio is very important.

You might want to consider checking out a workout/ weight-lifting forum — with lots of guys and girls with years of experience under their belt.

I think there’s a lot of sites devoted to ‘body-weight’ only exercises that require no equipment, too, if you are interested in that.

Of the three exercises you listed, I think pull-ups will probably have the most effect because it’s the most weight. But hey, doing anything is better than nothing.

I realize that. I’ve seen those forums. It’s filled with people who are obsessed about their bodies. They would take pictures of themselves in the mirror - shirtless - and make it their avatar. So I figure I’d take my chances here lol.

cabhax, what did you do to get yourself into boot camp? I would’ve settled with community service.

Also, why do you say nothing beats the gym? I mean if you want to build huge muscles, sure. I just want to stay in shape, so I guess I prefer sticking with my PPS system.
