To those who have experienced part time work while in college, what is the usual salary? What is/are the highest paying part time jobs? How is working part time a challenge to balance with studies?

anyone care to share?

It depends - probably around $8/hour. If you are a waiter/waitress it will be less plus tips.

I’ve been paid everywhere from $8.25 - $20 an hour. And that means nothing to you because you go to a different school, live with different minimum wages, and have different opportunities than I do.

I’d say most college jobs pay between minimum wage (or lower like said above) and $10.

There’s no way to answer your 2nd question. You just have to look at jobs around you to figure that out.

It’s not hard to balance 8-12 hour work weeks with school. Once you go above that, it gets more difficult.

thanks for sharing. if you have an 8-12 hour work week, then how long do you usually work per day? and do you get overtime pay?

I don’t know since I’ve never worked that little. I work ~40 (8 hours a piece on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday). I don’t have class M, W, or F so those are easy. I go to class from 9-3:30 and work 4:00-12:00 on Thursdays The other days are 8:00-4:00 or 8:30-5:00.

I’d assume 8-12 hours breaks down around 2-3 shifts of four hours each.

You get paid overtime for working over 40 hours…

Whoa…

ok are you international? If so, then your working hours are going to much different. There are very strict limits on international students. I know nothing about them though.

I work around 12 hours a week depending on my schedule. I work at a dinig court and work Tuesday an Thursday from 10:50-3 and Sunday from 10:45-2. It’s flexible and not too overwhelming. I like it.

The salary isn’t too bad and time management isn’t too bad if you know how to do it

I work about 24 hours a week and get paid $13/hour but my work week is only M-F and never later than 5pm.

It was hard at first balancing the hours with school work because I’ve never had a job where I worked more than 15 hours a week (including weekends) but you get used to it. I’ve also learned how to sneak and do a little homework here and there at work, so it has gotten better.

But it really depends on the type of job and you course load. I work in an office sitting on my bum all day. If I worked a physically demanding job for that many hours, it would be a completely different experience.

I make nine dollars an hour and I work about 15 hours a week. My work allows me to study some while working, which I really like.
