working the humor angle

did anyone actually try to work the humor angle on the personal statements? haha. i didn't for the ucs but my usc personal statement definately did.

I talked to the admissions director at Cal and she said generally when people try to incorporate humor into UC applications it doesn’t come off well in the essays.

i would imagine that being true because humor is so subjective. for example i didnt find that acceptance speech posted on CC funny but a lot of people did.

I talked about how I was a professional gamer and paid for my all my expenses from my winnings. It was nice, never had to get a real job.

AND janethedoe THANK YOU. I thought I was the only who didn’t think it was that funny.

I agree with you guys, I too didn’t find it that funny. The background music is what helped evoke “comic effect,” but only to little avail (imo). By the way, I heard the speaker plagiarized a lot of it and got in trouble.

lol im glad i had a choice to opt out of hearing it, i don’t know what i would have done were i in the audience, and had to sit through that crap.

i probably would have ripped apart my purple orchid lei and stuffed it in my ears.

Anyone have a link to this essay?

Unless your name is Swift or Twain, avoid attempting to be humorous in your writing.

I assume you’re talking about Taylor Swift and not Jonathan Swift in which case, yeah she’s hilarious.

Who the hell is that?

thank god im not the only one who thought that video was ■■■■■■■■… i was watching the video for the entire 7 minutes hoping for a funny moment… which never came :(

honestly, it wasnt that funny either.
