Working

I had a job last school year, and I have one for my senior year as well. There were a few months where I could only work Friday nights for two hours and Saturday mornings for five hours. It's definitely not much time, but the extra $30/week doesn't hurt.

I worked at Taco Bell for a year and a half. I liked making the food, but after awhile it got old. I worked 20 hours during the school year, 40 in the summer. I quit in May. :)

Then in June I worked potatoes. That was miserable. I spent two days a week sorting out bad potatoes. I was sooo glad when we finished the crop. I will not be working there this fall. :)

Right now I'm trying to find a job as a Barista, but no luck yet...

i've never worked a day in my life, but i'm getting job applications this week. i will only be working on weekends, but im very excited about it

Techno, I think I'd start biking to work if I were you. That would take a half hour at the most.

That's definitely in my plans...though I have to get a bike first. A major street that I would have to take is/was under construction for a really long time, so it's not really biker/pedestrian friendly. I'm actually looking into getting a job closer to home since my hours are inconvenient anyway. A bike would still be nice.

You can buy a good bike for less than $100. And just remember that if the streets are busy, ride on the sidewalk. It's probably allowed everywhere except the downtown area. You should not be riding your bicycle on a road with four lanes in each directions. I've seen people do it, and it's not pretty.

Or a Vespa.

Those things are super expensive, and not practical for high school students. A bike will be just fine.

Actually, bicycles have the same rights to the road as cars. It's the law in a majority of states. Some cities even have laws that ban bikes from the sidewalk. Trust me, even though some drivers can be jackasses, as long as you stay within the right of way or take the lane, then they usually just go around you, no sweat. Plus you get there alot faster than if you were on the sidewalk, and it's leagues safer (no peds come out of nowhere).

If you live in a major city, check Craigslist.com. I got my bike from there. It's a road bike (skinny tires), and they're loads faster and more comfortable than those BMX bikes most people ride. Trust me, it's the greatest thing ever. I don't even plan on driving, ever!

Who here can't stand their job?

I actually worked my first job during July at a summer camp for pre-school through second grade children. I was in the 5-7 year old group, and thank goodness. They were nice children and I actually liked it, even though I thought I would hate it. My first paycheck hasn't really gone anywhere yet...I assume it's going towards a trip to Italy I'm taking.

I won't be working during the fall, but I might try and get a job during the winter.
