Workload at UT

I am wondering if any current students have any advice or insight into the workload at UT? I know a lot of it depends on your major but how was the general adjustment from high school work load to a college like UT?

any advice is very greatly appreciated :)

You know all that work that your teacher assigns but no one actually does? Well, you’re going to have to start doing those. They normally take it easy on you at first, and you get away with saving your homework until the night before, just like you did in high school. Weekends are completely free except for Sunday night, as usual, and there’s no need to study for tests until maybe a night or two before. But slowly, the work creeps up on you and you suddenly find yourself in front of a text book on a Sunday morning. Soon enough it’s Saturday night and before you realize it you’ve started to section off your entire weekend in preparation for a single test.

Those students who have always studied hard tend to accommodate the increased workload appropriately. It’s the “hot-shots” who cruised through high school and think that college will be no different that often get a rude awakening after the first round of tests. As long as you avoid the notoriously tough professors (see: myedu.com), and you approach your courses with the respect they deserve, the transition should not be too tough.

Many professors now give out practice exams to the entire class. Skim through one early on and set your goals accordingly. Follow these two rules and you should be able to get an A in almost any course: 1) Keep up with the homework (or conversely, don’t fall behind) and 2) Don’t cheat. That’s really all it takes to do well, but you’ll find that surprisingly few are dedicated enough to keep to it.

thank you SO much for the advice! All of that really helps considering I’m super nervous about being overwhelmed in college.
also, thanks for that website!

I really appreciate your help  if any other tips come to mind feel free to spill :)
