Workload of CS 186 and EE20N

Hi...does anyone know if EE20N with David Tse would be easier as opposed to taking it with Babak? I had some exposure with Babak last Fall but I dropped it, my math skills were a a little bit rusty so I'm planning on reviewing this summer.
For CS 186, do I actually need to know some of the concepts from CS 61C? I will be taking CS 61C the fall and I'm planning on taking either CS 186/EE20N but I'm scared to take it with Babak. I remember the first problem set we got and it was just shocking to me...if anyone has any idea of what it's like with David Tse, it would really help me. Babak is teaching it this Fall 2012 and Tse is teaching it on Spring 2013. The reason why I'm looking into CS 186 was because I already have some experience with MySQL. I took it at a CC from way back with a tough professor. I feel like I learned alot from him and I enjoyed the subject too. So I think that will help. But if I actually need to know some concepts from CS 61C then I won't take it.

Thanks for any feedback.

Don’t let EE20N scare you. I also remember the first problem set, it really made me worry since I hadn’t done any calculus-based math for 2 years. However, the class gets much easier once people start dropping and then it gets a bit more difficult again in the end. It wasn’t as bad as it seemed in the beginning though.

As for 186, your SQL knowledge won’t help you very much I think. You’ll learn how to use SQL but it’s about 1 week of the class. Do you know how to program in C? It may depends on the professor but when I was taking the class we needed to modify and extend the postgresql code, which is in C. Other than that you don’t really need anything from 61C though some concepts (spacial/temporal locality, buffer managers, etc) may be useful.

I’m in the same position, haven’t done any calculus-based math for years. It’s just that the first 2-3 weeks of lecture in EE20N seemed so easy then the first homework literally shocked me. I needed help on almost every single problem. I heard that Babak is the harder one anyway, so I’m wondering if anyone knows anything about David Tse who’s teaching it on the Spring. Also I’m focusing on the CS side of EECS, so I don’t really care much about this class. Just want to get through it…
As far as CS 186, I have no experience in C. Although I’ve had some C++ classes before but that was a long time ago. I heard that they’re a bit similar but I don’t know. I suppose it wouldn’t be a good idea for me to take this anyway if my knowledge of SQL won’t help much either. Thanks.
