From what I've heard, Cornell is notorious for a very heavy workload. But is it really that much more than you would get at other colleges? I may be interested in applying ED to CAS next fall, but I'm a little put off by the rumors of all of the work. I'm not afraid of work, but I don't want to have no time to enjoy myself! Is it just that you're not in high school anymore? Or is the difference between Cornell's work and another college's really that significant? Thanks!

Ah yes, the weekly workload/cutthroat/suicide question.

Workload depends on your major. What are you planning on majoring in?

Well, I'm not sure but I'll definitely be dabbling in Classics/International Studies/Philosophy/French/Theater/Mathematics...

I know that's pretty broad, but I'm almost definitely going to be applying as an "undecided"

Well if you decide to major in classics, philosophy, French, theater, AND math, you may have a tough workload:)

If you pick 1 or 2 of those, I think you will be fine. The workload won't be a problem for you but keep in mind CAS has a lot of graduation requirements (though I don't think you will have trouble fulfilling them seeing your diversity of interests).

sorry for stealing your thread, but what about workload for an econ major?

I was wondering the same. I'm planning to do an econ / history related double major! If only Cornell had a PPE major. How's the workload for those majors aforementioned in my message?

If worrying about the workload or whether you can cut it....don't. Apply anyway, and if you get in, and decide you like it, go. I didn't think I'd be able to handle the workload and chickened out, went to another school. I felt completely unstatisfied and unchallenged, and as a result, I felt like I was wasting a lot of time and money.

I'll be transfering to Cornell this Fall:) If you're talented and dedicated enough to get into a top, tough university, chances are you won't be happy settling for less.

depends on whether or not you have 3 prelims this week, or a combo of prelims and papers...i think professor get together and scheme on how to make everything due in the same week, and being the student most of us are (procrastinators) we end up with what we like to dubb "hell week" which happen sporadically, hopefully for the average person about twice, maybe 3x a semester, but for crazy people like me who LOVE prelims (I have 11, 5 papers, a few presentation) they happen a lot more often, and then I usually just crash the weeks I have absolutely nothing due.
