Hello, Perhaps not a question that can be answered unless you have an idea of both campuses, but....
Would the workload be less strenuous at Santa Cruz than at UCSD? As a history major, the readings can be up to 600 pgs per week for 3 classes at SD. Also, any information about the anthropology major?
Thanks!

copious reading comes with the territory for history students. When I was studying History at UCSC in the late 80s there was quite a bit of reading but it never seemed insurmountable. 200 pages per week per class seems fairly moderate if what you are reading is interesting and well written which, as far as I remember, most of my college level history was. At the time UCSC history seemed to focus a lot on teaching history through literature rather than through texts. Standouts were my Chinese, and Mexican history courses which were both taught as seminars which required a lot of student discussion. I loved studying history at UCSC and can only imagine that the quality has not diminished over the last two decades.

My guess is that the workloads are similar. Both schools work out of similar texts and teaching styles.
