What is the typical workload at WashU? I know it must vary between majors, but how much do students work on their academics?

Well, I am a BME major and I work around 5 -7 hrs a night.

The way I see it is this: If you're applying here, you're probably applying to schools just as great and we all have a lot of work. Don't come here if you're scared to work hard, but also realize that in between that work we have a lot of fun.

I work about 4-6 hours a day.

2~10 hours a night, it always changes for me

It obviously changes based on major and who you are dealing with, but I'm a pre-med and it's not too bad.

During the weekdays, I only do about 2 a night. Sunday is a busy day for me, having to spend 5+ hours on required group activities. Saturday is also a pain because of 4 hours of chem lab. You get the picture.

"2~10 hours a night, it always changes for me"

The upper end of your range is extreme... What is your major?
