Works of art that take your breath away

This is probably obvious, but Beethoven, more specifically his 9th Symphony and the Pathetique Sonata. Also A Little Bell (or Little Bells?) by Franz Liszt.

As for art, I really like this series of paintings by Monet of this one church at different times of day - I don't remember exactly what they're called but they're really cool.

^The Liszt is called "La Campanella". It's the third in a set of etudes based on themes by Paganini.

Pfft. What's with all this Classical and Rennaissance stuff? We need some modern/postmodern stuff.

Speaking of which, I can't think of any.

Mandelbrot.

this is perfect mix of play and breakdancing.... just mindblowing

Fractals...

I got owned in Computer Science during sophomore year.

It was because I had no time to study due to soccer though.

Heh.

Mmm I love impressionist art. Renoir, Degas, Van Gogh, and Cezanne are some of my favs.

As for music, Simon and Garfunkel always blow me away. Bob Dylan's pretty amazing too.

Playwrights I love: Shakespeare, Edward Albee, Tennessee Williams, Dylan Thomas, Samuel Beckett, and Moliere.

i think nature often supplies the most breathtaking art. Hawai'i's Na Pali coast, pictures of Mount Everest, and standing on the edge of the grand canyon are some of the most awe-inspiring moments i remember in my life.

Winged Victory just blows my mind

and pretty much anything else from the Classical and Hellenistic periods of greek art.

For architecture I'd have to say the Pantheon and Hagia Sophia.

Also, I'm a big fan of realism and anything by Chuck Close.
