Does anyone know how the Dance Auditions work?

bump bump bump

As I recall, for applicants applying for Fall 2005 admission, there were two parts to the audition. One part involved learning some steps from an instructor and then performing the steps in front of the panel. The second part involved each applicant performing a very brief solo (prepared in advance) for the panel.

I think there were about 250 people auditioning and they accepted about 50 of them to the program.

It's been a while and I wasn't there--only heard this from an applicant who was accepted to the program.

my roommate is a wac major

they divided everyone up and put them into different small classes, where like people who did ballet were put in something other than ballet; my roommate was put in bahat naratiam or something indian? then they had to make up a solo dance before they came and then perform it for them at the audition, and interview with the wac people.

The interview is, I think, just a couple of questions about dance background, asked after the solo. (I remember this because the person I know in the program told me she was a little self-conscious because she was still out of breath from dancing when she answered the questions.)

If you are applying and sending a dvd, etc., include a dance resume. There are plenty of examples of them on line.

Good luck!
