Pitiful if you aren’t a Holland fan! To me it was brilliant. They wanted to pass the ball around the midfield and defense all game and we just picked our spots counter attacked them perfectly.

Wasn’t so much the Netherlands greatness as much as it was Spain’s ineptitude. Casillas looked pitiful on those last two goals.

brazil was ennhhh like it won but they had a hard time scoring goals against Croatia which isnt the best team i mean if they could barely win against Croatia then they are gonna die against Germany, Portugal, Ghana…

Spain might have been great in 2010 but lol Netherlands were like killing them -.- they totally got their revenge… BUT LETS NOT FORGET THAT WORLD CUP 2010 SPAIN LOST THE FIRST GAME AND WON THE WORLD CUP SO IN 2014 SPAIN LOST THE FIRST GAME…IDK IS IT A COINCIDENCE?

I secretly wanted Australia to win but i knew in my mind that Chile was the stronger team…but Cahill was great :)

I don’t know about anyone else but i am dying to see Monday’s game between Germany/Portugal (aka the strongest teams + their each others biggest threats)

AND THAT SAVE NEAR THE NET IN THE AUSTRALIA VS CHILE GAME OMG IT WAS LIKE A CENTIMETER AWAY FROM THE LINE AND THE DUDE KICKED IT AWAY :)

but i think that this just goes to show that over confidence is never good. like Spain played well 2010 and won and then they thought they could beat netherland again so they got soft and they sucked…but im not hating its anyone’s game you never know

Vidal wasn’t nearly as good as he should have been.

@Repede Very poor analysis.

1) The reason why Casillas was “pitiful” was because he was not protected, as the Netherlands played on the break against two lethargic centerbacks. When you get into positions like that repeatedly, errors are bound to happen. You see this repeatedly in world football. The best teams create chances and capitalize on them. The Dutch could have scored into the double digits.

2) The Dutch wingbacks compressed the midfield, sterilizing Spain’s possession game, and did not allow Spain to play - which was why @Repede thinks Spain were “inept”. A team with Xavi, Busquets, Silva, Alonso, Ramos, Pique, Fabregas is not inept unless the other team manipulates the flow of the match to make it so. And that’s exactly what the Dutch did. Really, if you truly understand football, you’d understand that it was 90% of the Dutch’s “greatness,” so to speak, that won the match. Not Spain being poor. They might not win the whole thing, but they can certainly do work.

@johnjunior Looks pretty pitiful to me.

I agreed with you, that Casillas was pitiful (read more carefully).
My point was that you’re making it out to be that the Netherlands didn’t play great. Which couldn’t be farther from the truth.

The Netherlands played fantastically.

van Persie’s header… words can’t describe it. And Robben was marvelous.

The center backs for Spain played dreadfully the entire match. The only offense Spain could muster the second half was this pitiful performance by Torres: <a href=“Liverpoolfc Soccer GIF | Gfycat”>http://www.gfycat.com/HighFilthyBetafish

And, did I mention Casillas was pitiful? http://a.pomf.se/wbfikr.webm

The Netherlands played great, but this was the worst Spain has played in a decade.

I think it was the Dutch system that completely mitigated tiki-taka. Kudos to van Gaal (btw, SO excited for him to take over at Man Utd.) for that 5-3-2 that worked so well. Daley Blind was excellent at wingback, and Stefan de Vrij was great too.

It’s funny how Australia is third in the group because of the GD.

It is. But deservedly so. Their effort deserved something. Too bad it won’t help them advance much further.

I think Spain can still claw back to second. The Spain-Chile game will basically decide who gets second, assuming Australia doesn’t pull any upsets.

@Repede Spain were indeed terrible, but it was mostly because of how the Dutch played. Spain’s forwards were not supported well, I think, as Holland stifled their midfield with the two wingbacks compressing the midfield. It also doesn’t help when your two forwards are the pathetic Costa (who should have been sent off) and Torres.

It’ll be interesting to see if Holland can continue this form, and if Spain can pick themselves up. Enjoy tomorrow everyone - Italy vs England should be interesting!

I think Spain will definitely bounce back. Ramos is the best centerback in the world imo and Pique compliments him very well. They both played lazily. When they’re in form, Spain is almost impossible to score on with them, Busquets/Alonso in a holding midfield role, and their pacey fullbacks. I think it’ll be Netherlands and Spain advancing. Both these teams are gonna expose Chile’s weaknesses.

No doubt, Chile’s ace wasnt Bidal; it was Sanchez.

Yes today we have 3 very good games (Colombia-Greece, England-Italy, Côte d’Ivoire-Japan) and a mediocre game (Uruguay-Costa Rica). I’m taking Greece, Italy, Ivory Coast, and obviously Uruguay. Greece has an extremely solid defense, and can beat really any team as long as they don’t get into a scoring slump, which often happens. I don’t really care who wins between Italy and England, but England’s glory days are long gone, and I like Italian food better than English food, which consists mainly of livers and kidneys. Ivory Coast. Like I said earlier, the true dark horse of the tournament. Don’t sleep on Gervinho and Drogba on the left side, especially when Japan’s rightbacks are really weak. The best player in the world, Yaya Touré, will have a monster game. Watch out for Côte d’Ivoire later on in the tournament.

Colombia 3 Greece 0
The ref didnt catch a lot of the fouls but even if he had, Colombia should’ve won.
