i know there's another world cup thread...but i just want to see what people think the score between italy and france will be for the cup...and portugal vs germany for 2nd loser...

2-1 Italy over france (Sun 7/9 ABC 2pm eastern)

1-0 portugal over germany (Sat 7/8 ESPN 3pm eastern)

I want france to win it!!! Zidane and Henry are favorites of mine but I think the team is great overall.
Portugal should place 3rd. They don't exercise unnecessary contact like the germans do. There game is much cleaner. Riccardo is like a god when it comes to protecting the goal also. Plus the portuguese are much cuter than the germans. ( Figo is my guy;) )

Ricardo is amazing. I don't think he'll let any more goals in. Though Germany will be pretty pumped to get third. I'm excited for that game. More so than the finals.

Why is everyone a French fan or thinks France is going to win? Has anyone noticed how terribly they've been playing this entire tournmant? The Italians have yet to give up a goal besides a single own goal and came out of the most difficult group in first place. The French on the other hand, played mediocre at best in their much easier group. Yes, the French beat Brazil, the most heavily favored team, but Brazil had not met expectations nor been challenged prior to the match. The Italians on the other hand, were forced to battle the entire tournament even to the woeful American team, then had to best the host nation in an extremely hostile environment. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see why everyone is so high on the French beating the Italians.

sportsman8433: The Italians have also been playing terribly. I can play with the facts just as you can - the Italians TIED with the USA. They played pretty mediocre teams in order to get here (with the exception of Germany, they played very few real contenders, including Czech, Ghana, USA and Ukraine, which only really had Shevchenko). France, on the other hand, has a bunch of amazing legends and has been slowly picking up pace - yes, they tied with the Swiss and Koreans, but since then they've beat both Spain (which was doing very well) and Brazil (again, the favorite - sure, they were not in top form, but you can't deny the talent and potential there - could Italy have beaten them? I don't know, and I don't think so).

"The Italians on the other hand, were forced to battle the entire tournament even to the woeful American team,"

Yeah, they were forced to battle the entire tournament because they sucked, ESPECIALLY against USA ...I don't get your statement, because that match was definitely not something to be proud of. France has had to battle as well - and arguably harder as Spain and Brazil are better teams than Germany and Ukraine - but they're less whiny about it.

I'm a French fan because I don't like how the Italian football culture is racist (the French team in comparison to the Italian is VERY diverse - almost the entire starting line is African, including Zidane, who is of Algerian descent) and even more b/c the Italians are notorious divers and foul-fakers. I'd hate for people who are playing the game in such a cheap way to win.

And as Germany fan, I'm bitter about the loss and desperately want to see France POUND Italy...Predictions:

I cannot fathom how you can say Italy has been playing terribly. Lemme know how many goals teams have scored on them? They play boring defensive soccer and it works. I'm sorry you're bitter that Italy beat Germany, but I don't think its necessary to bash the country's football culture. I, as an American, could just as easily bash the rediculousness of French foreign policy. I can't wait for them to ask us for help again. They'll be waiting an awfully long time.

A country's foreign policy has nothing to do with that country's athletic teams' abilities.
I'd just like to say that, in case anyone thought that there was any correlation.
