I've never taken AP World History, and never will (it's not offered at my school), but the subject really interests me and I've had some background in teh topic (world studies in middle school, + AP Human Geography and AP Euro [and AP US next yr])...would it be possible for me to take the AP or SAT 2 test just through studying independently...I'm speaking more specifically about the sat 2, because i really only think ill want to spend time durign my summer studying, not during the year when I'm already busy. So, I guess the q is: have any of you learned all fo teh info from a text/prep book and taken the SAT 2 in WH, without the class, and still done well?

definately the SAT II.
i only had world history behind me (general ed), and i think i did fine. i worked hard at preparing via prepbooks, but give it a shot.

thanks, any other suggestions? also, what prep book is considered the best for the sat 2?

Barron's world history SATII prep is good. Kind of dense, but very thorough preparation if you can get through it.

Are prep books enough for WH?

barrons give you the details but you'll also need something that gives you the big picture. For this, the AP PR for world history is very good

I took AP Euro this year and just took the SAT 2 WH. I used the Barrons and Princeton Book to learn everything I didn't know. I think I did pretty well

barron's sat-II world history prep book is enough alone. i got to june sat by studying it and i aced it enough although i even never studied the course.

Well, lets see what you guys got then. =)

If you know a your history pretty well then you really don't need to prep. I was in a similar situation as you, didn't prep and I think I did really well in June.

If you took AP European history you should be set

i don't see how you can say AP euro is enough because there was TONS of questions on africa/asia/americas in the test
sure, i guess its enough if you want an average score maybe

I dunno about that using that compliation of questions as a judge I seemed to only miss around 3-4 just with taking AP Euro last year and I consider myself far more average a student then a lot of the geniuses on this site. Maybe I just randomly knew a lot of this material even without formal coursework or prep.

The test was a lot less specific than I imagined. There were a few exceptions, but mostly it wasn't something that required strict memorization (rather just reading through a textbook/review book and remembering the main idea).

I'm taking AP Mordern World History next coming year. I won't finish the course until around May 2007 (That's when the AP Tests are). Should I take the SAT II Test around that time--like May/ June, or should I wait a few months and take it in Nov. 2007?

June would be good.
