Hey y’all, I’m making a thread for anyone interviewing/accepted/interested in the World Scholars program at udel. I interviewed last week Wednesday and was supposed to hear back yesterday or today, but haven’t heard anything yet. Anyone else in this boat?
My daughter will be interviewing in March. She isn’t 100% sure if she is interested in the program but decided to keep her options open. It seems like a wonderful program. I am just concerned about being away from the campus first semester freshman year. Thoughts?
@rollarcoaster18 not sure why they make the first semester abroad. It would seem to me that if they wanted a semester abroad the freshman year why not the second semester. Let the kids experience college first.
My daughter was invited to interview but is on the fence at this point. It’s a wonderful program, she met with the program coordinators back in June and it’s a fantastic opportunity.
I’m guessing they are concerned that they would back out after the first semester? I’m not sure. My daughter’s initial reaction was “I’m ready”. Then she started to think about what she would miss. I’m wondering if it comes with any scholarship opportunities. Either way, she will interview and see how it plays out.
@rollercoaster18 as far as I could tell based on discussions with the program coordinators I don’t think there are any initial merit awards associated with the program however there are lots of benefits. The best benefit is having mentorship for the large scholarships such as Fulbright, which is a big push for this program. They want to see these kids continue their international experience after they graduate. There are also a lot of opportunities to attend conferences, live in special housing and be part of a smaller community within a large university. Best of luck to your daughter on her interview!!! Hopefully they will start attaching some merit to this program as well; that would be a huge draw!
I’m in the same boat. Super interested in the program and had a video interview on January 24th which went very wel. I was told during the interview that I would be hearing a decision on February 2nd but haven’t heard anything at all and am getting slightly concerned. Good luck to all interviewing!
My son was just accepted to UDel last week and today was awarded a presidential scholarship along with an invitation to apply to World Scholars. He has the option to interview tomorrow at the accepted students day but we don’t know much about the program and I’m wondering if it would be premature to interview without preparation. It looks like an interesting option especially since he enjoys international travel and is fluent in Spanish (he attended a Spanish immersion school from K through 4th grade). Any insight anyone could provide is appreciated.
@Cookies510 I would say if he is open to doing an international based minor. The list is extensive as to what you can major in, but personally I wouldn’t suggest he do world scholars if he isn’t comfortable with that type of minor. If he is, then I would say go for it! It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and will be super nice to have a sort of world scholars family
@elzbth We spoke with students in the World Scholars program on Saturday. He is very interested in the program and loved the idea of two semesters abroad. They stressed almost any major could apply (except for maybe engineering and nursing majors w/ rigid timelines for their coursework & clinicals) and it was well-suited for undeclared majors. He didn’t choose to interview on Saturday but will be scheduling an interview soon.
Hi- My daughter had her skype interview on 2/20 and was told she would hear back very soon. Based on what two of you have said, I guess she shouldn’t hold her breath though! Have either of you heard anything yet? Good luck everyone!
@abcdeabcde We’ve been told mid-march is around when we should be hearing back. Apparently they discovered that early february was unrealistic
Hey y’all I got into world scholars and I’m going to Rome! Super pumped
I’m going to Rome as well! Can’t wait to meet everyone, and good luck to anyone still applying and interviewing
Hey - My daughter just checked the portal after dinner tonight and found out she is in! And Rome also! Are people going to the Decision Day on the 21st? I think it’s great they specified a date for World Scholars going to Rome so you guys can meet each other ahead of time.
@abcdeabcde I won’t be going because I live in Michigan and it’s kind of a trek, but tell your daughter to message me on instagram @elzbthlncstr because we have a Rome group chat!
My son has his interview on Friday. He’s interested in Madrid since he is fluent in Spanish (he attended a Spanish immersion school for K-4 and then continued with Spanish through his junior year).
My son is interviewing tomorrow. For those that have already been accepted, do you get you choose your location, or do they assign it to you. Also, does anyone know if you are able to participate in both Honors and Word Scholars?
@ctmom222 what time tomorrow? I think my son is at 3:30 or 4 (he is taking the train so I’m not sure of the exact time).
Can anyone tell me if there is merit associated with the WS program??
