World Solar Challenge 2009

As many of you know, Michigan has one of the most sucessful traditions in the World Solar Challenge, one of the most significant solar-powered car race in the World. Universities compete with major corporations such as Nissan, Honda and General Motors.

For the third time in the last 5 races, the University of Michigan has finished third. In all three instances, Michigan had the best performance by any university.

What can I say folks, is there anything we don't do well? Go Blue baby!

Lol, I hope I can join the solar car team next year o_O

Solar car is not just for engineers. It is a great experience for students of a wide range of interests and skills. The Business Division is a unique opporunity for business students (or aspiring business students) to get some real “hands on” experience. (Great material for Ross essays.) Check out umsolar.com for more information and contacts.

I should mention that this is an entirely student-run organization. Students:

1) Raise awareness for the car and the race (PR, Marketing, Communications etc…)

2) Raise money for the entire project (we are talking hundreds of thousands of dollars here)

3) Design the care (both technically and aethetically)

4) Build the car

As RE52 said, members of the team from from several colleges within the university, including the CoE, LSA and Ross.
