World's Most Indecisive Girl Seeks College Advice

Hey everyone. It's that time of year. I'm not asking anyone to make this decision for me, but I'd greatly appreciate any wisdom/ opinions/ experiences you all have with these schools. You're all beautiful.

I have my choices narrowed down to my only two affordable/ not too close to home options:

Denison: very nice scholarship

Schreyer Honors at Penn State: more expensive, but "doable" according to my parents.

UChicago: Just kidding. Unless I can come up with large sums of money.

They're both about the same distance away. I'm entering with a completely undecided major. I have been going through this process with the assumption that I'll probably end up at grad/med/law school, if that helps at all.

If you know anything about these schools or experiences at similar schools ( i.e. small LAC or small honors school within large state school), any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Have a wonderful day, everyone. :)

Do you want a bigger school or small school feel?

Pros of honors colleges: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1481352-whats-so-great-about-honors-college.html

On the other hand, Denison is a very nice school and it’d be nice of you to save some of your parents money, especially if they’re going to contribute to your post bachelor education.

Denison best choice IMO.

Denison 100%

Denison. It’s also the best endowed of the “Colleges that Change Lives”.

Are you instate for PSU?

Fly: I am instate for psu.

AGreatPerhaps: I honestly am not leaning either way toward big school/ small school. I applied to both kinds of schools.

Thanks for the help guys! Out of curiosity, for those who answered Denison, what are your reasons behind the response?

I agree with Denison. Beautiful campus, picturesque town nearby, good education. That would save your family $ for the grad school.

Before spending more money to attend PS, I’d want to know how well the Honors College isolates its first & second year students from classes as large as the following:

BIOL 141/001 (Physiology): 700 students
CHEM 101/001: … 152 students
CHEM 201 (Organic):… 351
ECON 102 : … 300 - 450 students (depending on section)
PHYS 211L (General Physics): 130 - 317 students
PL SCI 001 (American Govt): 360
PSYCH 100: … 330 - 367 students
(From the PS general schedule of Spring 2013 courses)

Is the entire pre-med track offered in small (< 50 student) classes?
It does appear that many are.
[Honors Courses: Schreyer Honors College](404 Error: Page Not Found - Schreyer Honors College (SHC) at Penn State University)

.2% of Denison classes have 50 or more students. In that respect (at least), the whole school is an “honors college”.
