world's smartest kid

Why do I feel like he's Anti-Christ?

He scares me. Like one of those kids that grows up really sheltered, and ends up falling over themselves because they aren't used to talking to anybody else.

I feel sorry for him.

i feel so unaccomplished : (

I, regrettably, thought it was going to end with his suicide. Stuff like this makes me feel like a neanderthal.

I always find it ironic that kids who are 10 years ahead and bored w/ school are encouraged to go to college and do all this neat stuff but when kids are a mere 3 years ahead (like I'm sure many people on this site are) they're discouraged from graduating early, and are given fewer opportunities than, say, this young seven year old.

I don't know, I guess it's really not that ironic, but we certainly live in a culture that encourages bright students to keep quiet and not try to do anything TOO smart unless you just can't hide it in which case you become a media icon...

Reminds me of the movie Harold and Kumar go to white Castle. Where kumar (Indian) had a talent in medicine and surgery.

Hah. I sense a great amount of jealousy in this thread.

Strangely, I don't have any jealousy for him. Maybe he has his own happiness in science but I don't think he'd find lot of friends :|

The article doesn't comment on his social capability...

Yes, I also get the feeling that many people on this thread are jealous. If a kid has this much talent and passion, then people should be happy for him. It's an amazing gift that not everyone has. I think that feeling sorry for him is completely inappropriate.

pshh, I already have a theory on the cure of Cancer. I'm not jealous, his dad practically leaves him.

A genius is a genius, and that cannot be denied. In this case, we have ourselves a prodigy.

Contrary to popular belief - In many countries, specifically developing ones, the smarter are more liked. In this case, this kid is from India. I can easily fathom how he would be the most 'popular' kid in his school, and perhaps many others as well. Intelligence is valued, unlike some places.

It is only a misconception that the smart are socially inept. I think. :D

Rofl, I can't even imagine a seven year old standing up making a speech, let alone one that happens before his first surgery. Thought to be truthful I would never let a seven year old perform an operation on me no matter how smart people say he is.

But that is crazy. What can make a kid that smart? Seeing how young he started almost makes me believe that geniuses are born that way.

As for his social life, I can't see him having many friends his age either, only not because they don't like him but because he's way too intellectual to connect to other twelve year olds.

how the hell did a 12 y/o become a surgeon?

Yes, from what I read about him it seems like he wouldn't be able to hold discussion on anything except medicine, just because I don't think human would be able to cram everything with that knowledge in.
If he's social and interacting guy then I should admit that he's lucky but otherwise I wouldn't like to be on his place.

sounds a bit like a savant to me, although they did mention his early fondness for shakespeare. hm. I feel sorry for him

It says he enjoys Shakespeare... I think he has interests in other fields and can hold a conversation.

yea i think so too..
