worried about attending nyu

there are so many students at NYU, you're sure to make some friends. join clubs and other activities when you get to campus, and don't stay in your room all the time. when/if you study, go to the library instead of your room so that you'll run into people and get a good group of friends going.

what major are you steveistutor?

Thanks for your great advice!

How did you survive in the high cost of living at NYU and the fact that the University is integrated into the city?

I'm majoring in Political Science and History at Columbia, actually. I have a lot of friends who go to NYU. the dorms are really big and lots of students are around, so you'll be sure to meet people. everyone else is in the same boat as you. feel free to contact me with any more questions!

Going to NYU and living in the city, is a lot like going to just another out of state school, except everything is "intensified" a bit more. I'm a transfer from a state school in the midwest, and I did find that kids at NYU were a bit colder, but many were also very friendly. To the OP, NYU/NYC will definitely teach you to be much more independent, and the transition will go a lot smoother if you try not to be as shy. I am by nature a fairly timid person, but you have to try to overcome that. Being friendly at orientiation is especially important, because most of people you befriend there are the people you hang out with during the year. And of course, be involved in clubs and whatnot...HTH

I think that east coast, NY are people are very friendly, but they are not phony, so you won't get a big fake welcome from them, but they are solid, real, and will help you out, and PARTY!!!

wat you just said is really only half true. it is true that new yorkers are not phony, we will tell you what is on our minds, but to go so far as to say that new yorkers are friendly is questionable. if they want to talk to you then they are friendly, but if you walk around like a tourist asking mad stupid questions you are not going to find the same friendliness. but wat you said about partying is also true.

dilo if you have traveled this country at all, you would realize that the people from NYC and the whole east coast, are just real, and friendly, and the best people you can find. you may be right when it comes to dazed tourists, but you can't have everything

indeed i have travelled this country and europe fairly extensively and i still believe that the east coast has the most real people around. however, new yorkers are not friendly unless they are speaking or interacting amongst themselves or already knwo you.
