Worried about grades?

I'm in my first year of high school.
I have 92+ in all my other classes, but my English grade is currently a 75. My teacher does not prepare his students for any upcoming tests or major projects and fails most of his students.

Is there any way I can improve this grade throughout the rest of my years in high school? My overall average is below 90 which keeps me worried about my chances of getting into a good college.

Did you get an A or B last quarter? The most important thing is to make sure your semester grade isn’t too bad, because that’s what accounts for GPA, and what colleges look at.

Also, the longer you go through high school, the better you end up doing. Or at least in my experience. Freshman year, I got two B’s first semester, and one second. Last semester, I got all A’s, even though my classes were more rigorous. Your classes aren’t the only that change; you do too.

It all depends on the person and on the school curriculum’s rigor, IMO.

In my sophomore year, I ended with 4 As and 3 Bs, mostly because I slacked off in that year, which cost me two more potential A’s that couldve replaced the final B’s.

However this year, with 4 APs and more time on varsity sports, I’m giving the most effort I’ve ever given so far in HS and right now I still have 4 As and 3 Bs, and it will stay that way until the year ends.

As Awakening said, my and probably most of the other juniors’ studying skills improved, but extra rigor can easily negate that effect.
