Worried about my chances. ED applicant from China

Hi all,

I'm applying ED from China. I have a 2350 SAT superstore. As for grades, I have a mid 90's average though I got 2 grades in the 80s (one mid 80 and a high 80 something). My school does not rank.

I have average extracurriculars...I am a leader of the MUN at my school and leader of the environmental club, but I know these are very common. I did independent research at Peking University related to the environment and got co-published with a professor. We sent our report to the local government. I submitted the abstract as part of the supplement. I am told my essays are strong and I worked a lot on my Why NU supplement. I traveled around the world growing up and have lived in Korea and Japan for 2-3 years each.

I'm applying to Arts & Sciences undeclared. Do you think I can get accepted ED? I already submitted.

Only the admission officer(s) reviewing your application can make that definite call
Your academic records and SAT scores definitely make you a strong contender. And considering the fact that you are an international applicant, applying in the ED round…does augur well.

Good Luck!

If you asked for financial aid, it hurt your chances, plain and simple. Otherwise, you have a lot of great things going for you (two 80s doesn’t mean much), and that research is a cool addition. I’d say you have a pretty good chance, but of course like NorthwesternDad said, only the admissions officers know what they are looking for

Luckily, I don’t require financial aid. How many students are there coming from China each year? I know a student last year who went to an incoming freshman event in Shanghai last year and he said there are around 40 from all over China and most got in through ED. The average admitted from my high school ED has 2270 SAT and RD is 2310 SAT.

Not requiring financial aid will definitely help. And your SAT score is above average for your high school’s ED acceptance rate. This augurs well for you! Good Luck.

Not requiring financial aid helps a ton, and your research/scores are really good. I’d say you have a pretty good shot for an international. And yes, there are quite a few Chinese students here.
