I am currently a 3rd year electrical engineering major in the winter quarter. I haven't done any internships or anything. I've only had part time jobs in the school cafeteria or as lab helper. My current GPA is a 2.89 (GPA as of beginning of fall quarter was 2.7 so it raised after fall quarter). I do expect it to go up more after winter quarter though. My question is how hard would it be for me to find an internship. It seems that most recruiters stop all communication with me after I reveal my GPA. I've applied to many but still no luck. If anyone wants to critique my resume then I would be happy to send out a copy.

Also how hard is it to find a full time job out of college without any internship or engineering related work experience?

Since you are 3rd year, I think you have enough time to raise your GPA to at least a 3.0. Work as hard as possible, and I also highly suggest that you stay for a 5th year just to have more opportunity to raise your gpa. No advantage in graduating in 4 years.

In this economy, it’s very tough for all recent grads to get entry level jobs or even internships. It’s just the reality right now. Obviously someone with related internships and a higher GPA will have a better chance, but I personally suggest that you focus on your GPA and after that pursue grad school. Job market is brutal right now.

I would be happy to look at your resume. PM me with your email address and we can arrange for you to send it to me in a formatted document (can’t do that via PM).

sorry it’s too late to edit my last message. but also i don’t think i can go a fifth year because of money problems. if i were to work hard starting now would it be possible to get my GPA up above 3.0 before the end of my senior year? i will probably be taking summer classes to further boost my GPA.

I believe they give you financial aid for up to 5 years, if that’s what you’re talking about.

I think most schools have some sort of GPA calculator in your “student portal” or whatever they call it. Just use that and see how many classes you have to take and how well you will have to do to raise your gpa.

If you can, try to stay a fifth year because after you graduate your gpa can’t be changed.
