Worried about my gpa

I am halfway through freshman year of high school and it hasn’t been so great. My gpa so far is about a 2.9 at the halfway point and I take all cp1 and only one honors class. I feel like I am a disgrace on my family because all of my cousins and my parents went to ivy league schools and it feels like I am going to be a stain on my family name. I turn in all my homework and do well on class work but on tests I just can’t seem to grasp and combine all the knowledge. Any tips on how I can study better what I can do to improve my gpa? Thanks

I’m a freshman too and I had the opposite problem: I would do well on tests but procrastinate on homework. Try tutoring through your school or a community center. Also, Khan Academy has great practice problems and videos/written steps that show you exactly how to do something. When studying, remove all distractions whatsoever. Turn off your ringer on your phone, no tv on in background, etc. And if, like me, when you read your textbook and it seems like a bunch of overcomplicated nonsense, make your own simplified notes and study those. Wish you luck. >:D<
(Btw, if all of your family members went to Ivies, that makes you an multi-generation legacy. If you’re also an under-represented minority, you basically have a ticket to college.)
