I am currently a freshman and I had a lot of problems this year so, I received a D in Accelerated Biology in my first semester. I am on the fence on whether or not i should retake it next year in concern I will only have three years of a science rather than 4 if I were to not retake it. What would look worst to a college; a D on my transcript or only 3 years of a science? This is really important and I am just really nervous about what may happen.
Is there no way to retake bio AND take an additional science class that would give you the total of 4? Normally, 3 vs. 4 would not be a huge issue except that your handle is “Future Surgeon” and a D in any science class isn’t consistent with that goal.
More importantly though, how did you end up with a D? You mention a lot of problems this year. Did those problems go away? Could these problems reoccur? A bad grade is generally a symptom rather than a full diagnosis of what went wrong and and retaking a class may be only part of the solution.
You could take it during the Summer, if your school offer it

How did you do this semester? That is an important question. If you have tried to improve your situation, that’s an important factor with things. Depending on the course, you might be able to retake it at summer school and work towards a better grade. If you want to go into a STEM field (surgeon), it’s important that you not only do well and/or retake this course to get a better grade but also it’s important that you master biology and understand it.
Also, since you want to go into a STEM field, it’s kinda imperative for you to have as many years of science as possible. If you play your cards right, you’d be able to avoid both situations (the D as your grade and the three years of science)
