Hello Northwestern forums,

I have only become interested in this school for the past month, but after doing some research, I feel like this is an environment that I would love.

After reviewing some of the decision threads I have decided to apply early decision and I really fell like my SAT and SAT II's are really holding me back. In my opinion my EC's are relatively good, but I have decided to retake those tests.

My problem arises in the fact that you can only take one or the other and October is the only date that I can take them. My SAT superscore is a 2170 (740 CR, 750M, 680W) and my SAT II's are a 670 Math II and a 660 Literature (I changed from Math I and Biology on the day of the test because I felt like I wouldn't do good on biology and I didn't know that the Math II is recommended for these universities).

So since I can only take one of them I was just wanting to know which would help my chances more and even out my application.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Note: I am applying for Weinberg - Economics if that makes a difference.

Your SATs won’t hurt you, but the Subject Test scores are not great for NU. I would try to improve the latter.

I also have a few other questions.

Does Northwestern consider your writing score or is it purely the Math + CR?

Is it okay to just wait till October to send my SAT scores along with my SAT II’s or should I send them now and only send SAT II’s in October.

Somewhat unrelated question, on the Common Application where I list extracurricular activities where would I list more activities after I reach the 10 activity limit?

Also, how early do I need to apply in order to be eligible for an alumni interview because I feel like the interview would help me greatly.

No idea. But since they do require the ACT with Writing (edit: as opposed to the ACT without the writing section), I would assume that they would also consider the SAT Writing section.

There’s no reason not to send them now. They’ll find their way into a file with your name on. There’s also no reason not to wait, unless you’re the type to forget to do things. If they do get lost for whatever reason, the college admissions office will contact you regarding the missing information.

Make a complete resum

An alumni interview might, at best, be given some minor consideration, but it is not an important part of the application

Thanks for the replies everybody. I feel much better about applying and getting into Northwestern.

Hopefully I’ll be in the Class of 2017.
