Worried about taking French 3! Help!

Hey everyone!

I’m going to be a senior this year, and am going to take French 3, but I am extremely anxious and worried: here’s why.

So basically I took French 1 my freshman year, and my french teacher this year, let’s call her Ms. P, was extremely strict but was able to teach very well. She left at the end of the year and our school had to hire a new french teacher.

My sophomore year, I took French 2, but this time it was with a new teacher, Ms. R. Now this was a crazy year. Ms. R was a first year teacher and had absolutely no control over her classroom. We never did anything, and she tried to teach but really only taught us basic French 1 material which we already knew. She often wasted class time by talking about her own personal issues, and was eventually fired in the middle of the year (during March) for showing a racist video to the class. The remainder of our year, we had a temporary sub who attempted to teach us French 2 material, but we ran out of time.

I wasn’t able to take French 3 my junior year because of scheduling issues, but this year, my school hired an extremely capable french teacher, whom my peers told me was much like the French 1 teacher.

I am extremely glad to be able to take French 3 my senior year, but I am extremely nervous about a lot of issues. Most of the class will be made up of sophomores and juniors, and I think I am the only senior in the class. Also, I feel like I will be extremely far behind the rest of the class since they all had a year with the new teacher, but I haven’t. I was wondering if there is anything I can do. Does anyone have any guidance?

Thanks so much for listening to this semi-rant, I’m just really anxious and panicky right now, and I don’t know what to do. Please help! Thanks so much!

Really, it depends on how much of French II you learned and how much of it you can recall in this school year. If I were you, I wouldn’t take French III; you second year has a poor foundation and you will might not be able to remember everything (I remember not knowing how to conjugate verbs in Spanish after a one week break; an entire year is insurmountable). If you are taking French III I would recommend seeing a French II curriculum guide and brushing up on grammar and vocab by using your textbook or some other aid (like Duolingo).
