I am currently attending a community college; I have 30+ units after 2 semesters and I’ve gotten all A’s, except for one class…philosophy, which I received a 79.5% (no rounding). My major is not leaning toward philosophy; I took it for general ed requirements, however, I’m afraid that this will show colleges that I am not consistent. I really want to transfer to a good 4-year university but I’m crushed at the thought that this C will drastically affect my chances. I’m planning on applying for transfer this fall and I’m worried that UC’s and private universities will not consider me. Is there any way I can do anything to improve my chances? I was aiming for UC Berkley, USC, and even Rice University, but now I feel like my opportunity is gone.
I suggest taking more difficult classes and getting the best grades in them. That will show schools that you are capable of handling difficult work. Since it’s a Gen ed, I wouldn’t worry about it too much but focus on the more difficult classes and your major required classes.
