I am going to be a freshman in the fall at Wake Forest University, and the more people I meet, the more concerned I am about the university. Is Wake an extremely conservative school?I was led to believe that there was a balance between conservatives and liberals on campus, but I am unhappy to say that the majority of people I've met are very conservative...is that just the people I am meeting?Or does the school have an overwhelming conservative atmosphere?

all i can comment on this is that my eng teachers husband and some of her family graduated/attend wake forest. and her family is really baptist and conservative. but thats just one family, so i wouldnt be to concerned.

lamyab...I would not be concerned about it at all. From everything that I have heard from family friends and my cousin who went there, it is a place that does have a good mix. It really is a national university so there are students coming from all sorts of backgrounds and political viewpoints. The professors are going to be liberal for the most part as you will find in most higher ed situations. One friend of my cousin's actually was there this past year during the election year and she said that it was refreshing to see that there were people expressing viewpoints across the board. You will find a conservative slant to southern campuses often times because of the locale but the student body overall is probably going to be moderate enough to where you should not panic.

I'm moderate to liberal myself and I'm going to Wake next year if it makes you feel any better. I'm not really too bothered about it, but then again, I don't really care too much what other people do/what they think of me...they do their own thing, I do mine. The only thing that bothers me a LOT is when people, whether they're conservative or liberal, refuse to listen to or even have a proper debate with someone with an opposing view. I think it's very important to not be narrowminded and be open to other opinions.

But I do think there's probably a decent mix of political views at Wake.

Wow.....my sister goes to Wake and she's insanely liberal.....as are all her friends and many of her professors...but....many of Wake's students do come from upper-middle/upper class backgrounds, so that could contribute to a sense of conservatism. But all in all...i think you'll really like it....Winston Salem isn't that great of a city, but you'll stil lhave something to occupy your time on and off campus...campus is gorgeous, classes are small so you have more teacher to student bonding....great school.....

They are a basketball crazy school even after losing all the top 2006 recruits to OSU.

i just want to see a wake-duke final one of these days, or a wake-unc
