Worried about writing score on GRE

Hi there!
Today I received my GRE results in the mail. I needed a good GRE score to help out my 3.0 overall GPA and my 3.5 major GPA. I knew how well I did on the Verb (750) and Quant (580) but was anxious to know how I did on the Analytical Writing. I was kinda let down to see that I got a 4.

I am applying to graduate programs in English literature and am afraid that this 4 is going to hurt my chances at getting into better schools. Will the 750 verbal score bolster this writing score? I definitely would like to avoid retaking the test unless it is absolutely imperative.

Most programs that I am applying for require a 15-20 page critical writing sample, perhaps this will serve as a better indicator of my writing skills than the AW section of the GRE?

Thanks!

Wow, your verbal score is amazing. Luckily English Literature will dismiss that terrible quantitative score. Most schools take the GRE scores with a grain of salt as long as they aren’t too low, so I think you can bet that your 15-20 page writing sample will be much more important than your GRE writing score.

Retake the writing section
