my son just got his SAT scores a few days ago and he didn't like them at all. It wasn't horrible(1920 overall) but he doesn't think it's good enought for UT Austin. He also got a 27 on his ACT. He gladly admits to not studying for either test, but since he is a senior time is of the essence. I know UT is selective, but can anyone ponder my son's chances?
P.S. his extracurriculars are ok(130 volunteer hours, NHS and environmental club member, plus some Interact)

Is he a Texas resident? What is his class rank?

Does he have time to take another SAT? Taking another time could help.

he’s ranked 166 out of 449 which is way up from last yea(208 from 449). Bright kid and he got 4’s on his AP’S which isn’t that bad right?

he lives in houston. he’s in all AP’S this and has 1 B in biology, so he’s good i think

If he’s a Texas resident, he needs to be in the top 8% or so to get admitted automatically. If he’s OOS, admission is pretty competitive.

he really wants to go to Baylor( wants to be a doctor like his dad) but someone at school said UT is better for medicine.

would going to Baylor be the better plan?
