<p>A very good friend of mine applied to the UW by the November deadline and still hasn't heard. I applied by january fifteenth and got in a few days ago. is it possible that uw lost her application? does this mean that she's rejected??</p>
<p>Has she checked her status of her application online?</p>
<p>I also have a good friend that applied in October and hasn't heard. He didn't apply to the honors program. I am pretty sure he will be accepted due to his high stats, EC's and in state so unless your friend applied to the honors program, she shouldn't worry.</p>
<p>Would you mind sharing your stats? I am a bit worried that my son hasn't heard yet either.</p>
<p>He applied at the end of December, and based on his stats (almost a 3.8 GPA at the time of application in extremely rigourous course work with a 35 ACT) I was pretty sure he'd have heard by now. Others with lesser stats seem to be getting admitted, so I'm not sure why he hasn't heard. </p>
<p>His status does not show as reviewed yet to be able to try the load transcript trick. He got all As this semester is over a 3.8 GPA now and I'm wondering if he should send in this info even through they don't ask for it.</p>

<p>I don't know if it's true, but I've heard that the UW scrapes the top test scores from the admission pile and admits those students first. Are your sons SAT scores good?</p>
<p>I have a 3.68 GPA, several APs and EC (im the editor of the school paper) My SAT scores weren't great...around 1900.</p>
<p>His SAT scores were about 2180 (2240 superscored), and his ACT was a 35 (which is equivalent to a 2340). So based on test scores and GPA (with 9 APs), I can't figure out why so many others who applied later with lesser stats have got in and he hasn't!</p>
<p>Under Gov. Chris Gregoire’s proposed budget, the university would have to downsize enrollment by about 800 students, but the Senate’s budget proposal is even bleaker and would require the UW to cut enrollment by as many as 2,200 students by next year, Emmert said.</p>
<p>“A lot of students are getting wait-listed, and we are being very conservative with admissions at this point,” said Phyllis Wise, provost and executive vice president. “We have 23,000 applicants this year, the biggest pool in history, and we don’t know what to tell them.”</p>
<p>Maybe this is why it is taking so long. We just got back from visiting UW and this was in the school paper on Friday.</p>

<p>any1can: That's what got me so worried, but everyone keeps telling me that with his grades and test scores, he should hjave no problem even this year (and many people who's already heard had lesser statistics) so I just don't get it. I am worried that maybe something in his essays or elswhere in his app caused an issue as he should have been a quick decision by all accounts.</p>

<p>I'm assuming your son comes from an in state high school, and UW does usually favor in state...did he have many ECs?</p>
<p>Wow Seattlestudent that is very mature given the fact you are still waiting! We're from CA and as you may know, the UC's have been having this problem for 4 years now and it is very frustrating, especially to the large number of very qualified students who deserve to be in a top tier college. It really isn't fair, but UCB, UCLA, UCSB and UCI use the holistic approach and UCD and UCSD use a point system along with the essay. So in many cases, the decision does seem to boil down to the essays, EC's and leadership.
Because of the UC's huge budget cuts, kids are being redirected to lower tier UC's like UC Riverside and Merced. The upper UC's have traditionally only admitted approx. 5-6% out of state, this year I know they are admitting many more. I guess my point is, well qualified students are upset as it takes up some of their spots, and this is totally understandable. So it would be understandable if WA kids were upset about OOS admits.
We feel a little quilty about be admitted early but WA is D'd first choice,. She loves the campus, the people, everything. She probably will be admitted to one of the top tier schools (she is already into UCD, UCI and UCSB) because she is in the top 4% of the kids in her school so that admits her, but she will turn them all down for UW because that is how much she loves it! UCLA had over 55,000 applications for same number of seat the UW is trying to fill! Hopefully the OOS tuition we have to pay will allow 2 more people in:) The admissions office (we were there last week) said they are trying to get through the apps as fast as they can and that the majority of decisions come out the mid March through mid April. Anyway, good luck, I'm sure you will be admitted and same with WAMOM2 son!</p>
<p>Yes, he's in state and his EC are quite good. He's heavily involved with theater and is doing math team and robotics. Several other things as well. I really am confident he will get in, I just was hoping he'd get one quick response so he'd have something under the belt. </p>
<p>By the way, any1can, I think it's great to have OOS students. It ads to the diversity of the school and its reputation.</p>
<p>Yay. My son finally got his accpetance letter today. Strangely, his status didn't change to renewed until today. Hopefully the others who are waiting will hear soon as well.</p>

<p>Congrats WAMOM2! It is such a relief knowing you have that acceptance, especially this day and age! By the way, thanks for the OOS support! We new we loved WA.
We actually do have WA ties. Parent live in Wenatchee P/T and grandma has lived in WA for 70 years. Grandpa worked on the dam way back when. Also have many cousins and friend in Seattle so D does have a family support system around the area.</p>
