Forgot about NYIT!

Please! Anyone. I don’t have any other way to get help.

NYIT would be a good match.
You should be applying throuhg EOP/HEOP.
Marist throuhg HEOP, perhaps Ithaca.
Suny Bing, Geneseo, and Stony Brook are all reaches (even with EOP) but why not?
SUNY Delhi is a safety.
What about SUNY CSI?

Can anyone explain to me what EOP is? I looked it up on the SUNY website but still confused.

It’s a program by the State of New York to help disadvantaged, promising students apply to stronger colleges than they think they can reach due to test scores (as those often correlate with socio-economic status - so, if you’re very low income, you may be quite smart but your test scores may not reflect that.) As a consequence, HEOP helps you at private colleges in the State of NY, and EOP helps you at public colleges (SUNYs). You’re guaranteed excellent financial aid, get a free summer program to bring you up to speed, and special advantages. It’s a superb program.
Since you’re taking the SAT in October, would you be able to take the SAT subjects in November?
Do you speak one of the languages they have on that test date? Any other subject they offer on that date that you feel pretty good about?

Thanks @MYOS1634 for the response!

Taking SAT MATH 2 in oct. There were no seats left when i went to sign up for the SAT oct, so guess ill have to take it Nov and dec. (Messed up badly).

And ill look into the summer programs around my area. Thanks.

Also do you know if it looks good getting a job instead of a summer program?

Thanks for your help!!!

The summer programs are included in HEOP/EOP: if you’re admitted to college via HEOP/EOP, you automatically qualify for 5 to 6 weeks of free summer college classes (even room&board is paid for).

@MYOS1634

Alright thanks!!

The point is that EOP/HEOP are programs to support promising lower-income students into applying to colleges that they have the intelligence and diligence for but for which their test scores may not qualify them outright.
So if you qualify for EOP/HEOP you could apply to lots of excellent schools that would provide you with an immersive educational experience, lots of resources, and greater opportunities.

@MYOS1634

Alright thanks !! New to all this college stuff and to be honest i have no idea what i am doing… :frowning:

How do I apply to EOP/HEOP?

Besides reading about college, visit your guidance counselor and make it clear that you want help applying. If you make regular appointments and take initiative, you can probably get more than the usual amount of help and you will probably earn the support of the guidance counselor-something that will help you get a positive letter from the guidance counselor. Google EOP and SUNY and read.

Go see your guidance counselor and say “I’d like to apply to Hobart&WilliamSmith, Marist, Ithaca, and St Lawrence, through HEOP. I’d also like to apply to Geneseo with EOP. How can I do that?” :slight_smile:
S/he’ll likely want to know why you are interested, so review their websites:
http://www.stlawu.edu/
http://www.hws.edu/
http://www.ithaca.edu/
https://www.marist.edu/

If your applying through the suny portal system there will be an option to check off before you send in your applications that you want to apply through EOP. Through EOP you have to meet the income guidelines and send in an application(usually sent to you by the college or its on their webstite) to prove you meet them.

Ok thanks!! Going to talk to my guidance counselor tomorrow

For Marist you might have to get your grades up a tad but remember it is test optional so you don’t have to worry about submitting those scores if you don’t like them. I didn’t submit them and it ended up working out for me in the end. Just try really hard the rest of your senior year and show as much interest as possible by emailing counselor’s and visiting as much as you can and really getting a feel for the school and the types of students that attend.
