Worried: Situation about second half of Senior year...

Hey guys, long time browser and I've finally come for simply one question that I've had no definitive answer on. Here's my situation...

I've recently been accepted into a few colleges that are ranked quite highly (above 50 from US News, not saying which). I still have to hear back from a few more colleges, but ignoring the other ones I have to hear back from I'm very pleased so far. I already sent my Midyear reports into my colleges and I did fine [2 As, 4 Bs, 1 C in AP/Honors classes]. The colleges that I got accepted into requested my Final year reports...uh oh...

It's a little bit into the 3rd marking period and from how it's going I expect 1 As, 1 Bs, 5 Cs [maybe 1 As, 3 Bs, 3 Cs]. This is not due to slacking off at all, though! I'm extremely stressed because my grandfather passed away and I've been taking care of my baby brother when my father is working [so when I get home from school I watch him] because my mom is having problems with her thyroid glands and her body is out of whack. Add harder material into the mix, and this is where I am.

I'm dying to get into these schools, I don't want my Admission rescinded. I haven't changed as a person though and I'm still involved, nothing's changed other than my grades.

If it helps, I'm an URM [Hispanic] who's out of state to both schools. 1320/1910/30 (SAT/new SAT/ACT Comp.). GPA is an A-.

Again, I absolutely am in love with these schools, especially one, and would die to go there. I am extremely worried about getting my acceptance rescinded.

So, my question. What will happen to me?

Thanks so much in advance!

It might be easier if you listed the schools, as it will really depend on what schools your are aplying to. In your case, I would include a letter explaining the circumstances along with the report. Try to increase those grades as well!! But I wouldn't worry if I were you. :)

Accepted to:
University of North Carolina (CH)
Boston College
Penn State
TCNJ
Rutgers
Univ. Of Verm.

Need to hear from:
Harvard
Princeton
Carnagie-Mellon
NYU
Northwestern

Def:
Georgetown

Rej:
UPenn
Rice

I love all the schools I applied to. Whichever I choose would be great. Many factors will decide which I go to, but each has its own unique quality that I love. I'm just worried that whatever schools accept me I have to send Final Year reports to. I don't want any Admission to be rescinded because going to many of these colleges are a dream.

Im in the same boat as you. I already sent my acceptance into NC State, so Im obviously planning on going there in the fall, but my grades are that great right now due to health issues (migraines). Ive been told that if it really gets to the point where you think theyll revoke your admissions, then write them a letter to explain why. In most cases though, you would need to really mess up. Getting a couple C's in AP's wont do much, especially since youve already been accepted. Schools only rescind your acceptances if you get in trouble (with the law, suspensions, expulsions, ect.) or if your GPA drops dramatically. If you could supply your GPA for the first 7 semesters and then the GPA for this semester it would really help. But honestly, you have a lot of time to bring those grades up! Dont give up now! Senioritis SUCKS ;)

It's not even Senioritis in our cases, it's family health and personal health.

My GPA (up to Senior year) was 3.99 / 4.6. The first two marking periods was a 4.15ish. This one it probably will be a 3.4.

I apologize for this, but bump.

youre already in, and with that slight slip, it probably wont do too much to your overall GPA. Dont worry about it, and just focus on your family. Remember, the worst case scenerio is that you drop a little bit, and you send them a letter with your reasons why. Theyll understand

what does bump mean?

Guidez,

It's when the topic hasn't gotten replies in a while and you want to "bump" the topic to the top so people can see it.

Some people get annoyed when people bump a lot because they think theyre "spamming". If your topic is getting old and not on the first page of the topics anymore, and you feel you havent gotten your answer, then bump it.

From what I have read, you really have to get ds and fs to get recinded, they want to make sure you are doing your best and still trying and pass with no problems

I would do some pro-active stuff know, meet with your counselor to discuss a plan, etc, so that IF (which I doubt) the school is concerned, your counselor can say, yes, well, abc happened and the student is working hard etc. If the counselor is aware of your family stuff, they can support you if the school has any questions, (which I doubt)

THere is something to be said about getting some support when you need it, no shame there

So talk to the counselor, you may get some help with your little brother, some emotional support and its good to get the stress off of your chest. I imagine you have to be all cheery at home with dad and mom, but you should be able to moan and groan to somebody who understands

good luck and I am sure it will all be okay

Fail or get arrested.

You are fine.

thanks jethro -- I've been wondering!

citygirlsmom definately has a good idea. I got in touch with my counselor, and she knows of my health problem (migraines as I stated before), so that I have her to back me up if in fact my grades do slip to a D (unlikely, but could happen). Just dont worry about it though, youve done a great job to be accepted already, and theres only a couple months to go!

If you are that worried, I think you should ask the person who you asked to write a commendation for you. Maybe that could tell the college why you didn't do so well. I think that will help. :]

yes i agree with citygirlsmom... gc is your best friend when it comes to colleges...at least in my case
