Alright, just got letter that the HPME program at Northwestern won't even offer me an interview...talk about sad, right?

Plus, just received news from WashU that I have not been selected for any of their academic based scholarships....

OK...so opinion! What do these things say about my chances of getting in? I mean, yea, chances are lowered, but how low are we talking??

I have a 3.98 uw GPA, top 1-2 % of my class of more than 1000 people, took 8 AP tests, got 5's on seven of them and 4 on one. The only female National AP Scholar at my school. I also have a Siemens award for advanced placement (though that came in late, i sent it in, but I don't know if the colleges have looked at it....)
and yea, ok, but not great score on SAT, somewhere around a 2270
750 on SATII bio (probably what got me on HPME ><)
790 on SATII chem
800 chinese (yes i'm azn)
Extra curriculars are pretty ok too, started a club, got some state awards for Science Olymp. did community service etc. (no sports though >.<)

Also applied to places like Cornell, Rice, Duke.....

ok, sorry this is turning more into a chance me....

good luck with your apps and the 9th grade input you will get on this board. Wait until 4/1 and you will see for yourself what your chances are. You are a fine applicant if that is what you are looking for..

Not really, I've known people with much higher stats who were unable to make it into any of the colleges I have just listed....which is quite frankly, why I'm so worried...

O, and also, due to new school rules this year, I was not allowed to put top 1-2%....&^%(^&

Those places are extremely competitive; everyone applying there has high stats. Not everyone on the upper end gets in, and not everyone on the lower end gets rejected.

You are aware(I'm actually certain of that you do) that HPME and similar programs have acceptance rates in the 3-5% range. That is 1/2 Harvard.

Shut up, go to an amazing school, and take the MCATs. Woe is you who doesn't get to skip them.

You are an exceptional candidate, and you know this. You'll get in somewhere. Chances aren't low. Not recieving merit aid or ridiculously competitive program acceptances is a horrible mode of judgement. You know that, otherwise you wouldn't have those stats. You have extremely high chances of acceptance. You are an exceptional applicant.

<sarcasm>cruz... everyone knows that science olympiad demands * so much * of a student's time. we both know how hard we worked to prepare for tomorrow...</sarcasm>

btw... i really enjoy the fact that we have taken over random threads to discuss unrelated topics. i'm sure the rest of the cc community really appreciates this.

I'm sure some over-worked, under-paid and under-socialized with moderator is eagerly zooming over CollegeDiscussion trying to discover our next thread takeover.

yes, i'm sure. but i do assert that we have free range over any chances threads. chances threads were created in hell to intensify the neurosis of high school seniors. i'm sorry to say that i was once pulled over to the dark side, but i can now see the true evil in all chances posts.

You were pulled over to the dark side? Oh, yeah, now i remember...Chance posts are evil because they tend to be filled with the sort of people who say things such as "Your 2299 will never get you into any school. Especially not with just those crappy ec's of varsity athlete and national finalist in thirty different activities. Gah, I'm so superior..." Which is why I tend to bolster up any chance posts with happy thoughts...happy thoughts.

lolololol, you guys are funny. Will you go take over my chance thread please? :)

The OP is funny too. She actually thinks she might get rejected everywhere just because she didn't receive any merit scholarships at some of the best universities in the country. Well, I suppose if she wrote really horrible essays........muhuhahahaha.
