In the school I go to, (Troy High), there were about 10 people who got accepted to Stanford, and they all had straight A's. However, one had one B, and got rejected.

Is it possible that at choosing from an elite public magnet school or any other highly ranked school, that decisions are weighted differently? Pretty much, what I mean is that is every applicant looked at with equal treatment, even at a highly competitive school? (My only weakness is one B).

The school I go to isn't that competitive and I was accepted w/ 5 B's (4 were in 10th though). On the other hand, others were rejected with all A's. Chances increases as grades go up, but a single B isn't going to change your decision.

All A's are not a prereq...I'm from around your area, went to a public magnet high school...and I had 3 B's on my high school transcript, plus a few B's and a C in college classes...

so, the point is, grades aren't end-all...it's been said over and over again...but the key is: show passion, in anything...and not just for stanford, i was in at most of the top schools...good luck!

brady00n: I went to Troy High School, I had a couple of B's, and I got in.
I wouldn't worry too much about that one B and just concentrate on doing your best.

That's one thing i did have. I won seven state science olympiad medals (4 gold), had team win state twice, and went to nationals one (would go this year, but its the same weekend as graduation, so some other school gets to go). Also coached a jr. division event. And our competition is just a little bit after football season
