Last school year as a freshman I took an AP Exam but I messed up and I didn’t get a good score so I’m retaking it. Will I need to send my first score to colleges or will the second score fully replace the first one?
Majority of colleges do not consider AP test scores for admission purposes. There is no reason to retake an AP test unless you know you will be able to get college credit at any particular school with a passing score.
It’s one that I really want the college credit for.
Which AP course is it?
Computer Science A.
You may want to check out the AP credit policy of some colleges of interest to see what score will give you college credit. Many competitive/top schools will only give credit for a score of 5. If you think you are capable of obtaining a high AP score, then sure go ahead and retake.
And to answer the original question, you can omit the lower score (but as with anything with the College Board, there’s a cost involved). However, if you send both, they will use the higher one for credit purposes (assuming that the higher score warrants credit).
Since AP score reports should only be sent to the college you are attending, I would not pay to withhold the lower score - the clerical processing AP scores won’t care is you did badly the first time.
I would also say that it’s only with retaking the exam if you think you can get your score into the credit-granting range, and if preparing for it does not interfere with this year’s AP preparation, and whatever else you have going on. Sometimes it’s better just accept it and move on.
Thanks for the Answers/help. I will try one more time this year because last time it was the first AP Exam I had ever taken and the time really brought me down a lot (Which I really did not expect). This year I will try to study more and do better with time on exams.
