Also, anything by Sophocles sucks. I had to read the Oedipus plays my senior year of high school. I don't know why they bother to have students read them anymore. Everyone hates it.

The same goes for Shakespeare.

Freakonomics was horrid
I agree with Blobof about Ann Rand.

I absolutely loved Sophocles. Antigone was great. I love that stuff...Shakespeare, ancient Greeks, etc.

Ayn Rand was GREAT! Kinda weird at first, but overall a good read.

Some horrible books are those "junior novels", where they write books after the movie comes out, like High School Musical (good movie, though). What a waste of our natural resources.

.-_-.

I agree snoopyiscool. I finally read The Fountainhead after years of procrastinating and loved it.

I actually disagree with the suggestion of Ayn Rand being a bad writer. I read Anthem and have been procrastinating Fountain Head but I'm sure I'll eventually get to it(I think). However, my AP Lit teacher said the only way you're probably going to enjoy any of her books is if you believe or adopt her principles.

I don't totally agree with Rand's views, but I liked The Fountainhead anyways. It was a pretty cool story.

Ethan Frome was ridiculously bad.

I don't agree with much of Rand's views either, but her writing gives an insight into the beliefs of others.

Atlas Shrugged is the most one dimensional read ever. The woman has no sense of word economy.

Haven't read that one. It's even longer than The Fountainhead - I wouldn't make it. The movie is coming out in 2008, so I'll just wait till then.

sweetdream
I almost posted something like that when I read what s/he said about the book. But I know how people on here LOVE to make stuff up out of boredom...so I didn't.

A toss up between "Class Dismissed" and "Nickel and Dimed", both of which I had to read for gen ed classes in college.

One book stands out as my crappiest experience: Billy Budd. 90 pages and yet it still took forever. No other books not even assigned books were as bad as that one.

That book was just too boring.

"Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife," which is sort of sequel of sorts to Pride and Prejudice, was AWFUL.
I love Pride and Prejudice, and when I saw this, I went "Yay, unauthorized sequel!"

Stupid me. I forgot that in most cases, sequels always suck. But oh no, the book even went beyond just being awful in general. It COMPLETELY butchered pride and prejudice. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are evidently nymphos, according to this book. I was so mad, I practically threw the book across my room halfway through (I was surprised I even got halfway... I guess I just kept telling myself that a plot would suddenly appear) because it disgusted me so much. How can ANYONE make such trash out of a classic?

The Mary-kate and Ashley series. I used to love reading them in middle school and very recently now I've tried reading them again....well, let's just say that I haven't gotten past the first page.
