WORST brainfart on a submitted application

I've noticed that in the forums of all the schools I'm applying to, someone somewhere is stressing crazily over a mistake on their already-submitted application...

So, to make us all feel better: LET'S SHARE our mistakes!

I'll start:

I checked "Mrs." on Part 1 of the Brown app, and didn't notice until after I submitted Part 2!

On the "why Brown" essay, I wrote "the the research opportunities"

In the UC essay, I spelled mother "mohter"...

I spelled my name wrong...I hit "u" on the keyboard instead of "y". How embarrassing. It's only 5 letters long too -_- I had to email all the UC's to change it. I guess I was so intent on editing my essays when I previewed it, that I didn't even notice the personal info part!

^one of my friends did something similar!

She spelled her name wrong :p on the signature part of her common app... and she found out AFTER sending it two of her top schools.

This is the last line of my commonapp essay submitted to Claremont Mckenna College:

"...prepared to venture into the University of California."

I corrected it for Pomona and Stanford, but...

^^ that's pretty bad. lol

Do tell us whether you get into CMC in the spring. =)

I wanted to say no to a question on the common app. The checkmark was next to no, but I thought it was saying "yes." I spent maybe 20 minutes trying to figure out why it wasn't working until I realized that the "no" was just on the left hand instead of the right hand side.

forgot to report any of my AP scores... had to mail in an addendum.

bump.......

how do ppl spell their names wrong -_- i would think you would check that part of the application a few times over..

anyways, i found grammar errors in my essays..

I wrote my birthdate for the Signature date. Apparently, I learned how to write, the minute i was born.

I forgot to put a title on my Amherst essay!

The title is 'Amherst Supplementary Essay'

wow, how creative! I'm not even sure if it should be supplemental or supplementary, hahahah.

I did not have titles for any of my (mini-)essays.

marked every need financial aid 'yes' when I don't need it. Now I just decreased my chances of admission. Had to fax and email every university and I'm not even sure if I can change it. (No reply, do I need to call them?)

Oh geez, are you supposed to have titles? I didn't think that was necessarily standard...

Oh no. That's classic, but horrifying.

In one of my supplementary "Why [school]" essays, I had accidentally deleted, like, two and a half sentences. I seriously started the next sentence with ", but" comma after the period and all, and it sounded atrocious.

"marked every need financial aid 'yes' when I don't need it. Now I just decreased my chances of admission."

really?! I marked "yes" for all the financial aid boxes too even though I probably will not receive much aid

Relax. If the school isn't need-blind, I don't believe they make decisions until they go through all the financial aid stuff, meaning that they look at the DEGREE to which you need financial aid. If your estimated need is, like, $1,000 or nonexistent, it won't hurt at all.

Oh. I also put "antidiscrimination" instead of "nondiscrimination." Silly me......

Referring to another school in your essay isn't too horrible...I was applying for transfer to 5 different schools in Oct/Nov of '07.. I was general in my common app but then I inserted a reference to "Vassar" for their essay and I mistakenly sent that one to NYU also.. they called me up and asked me if I sent the wrong essay..I just explained that I was applying to a few different schools and I made a mistake but it was the essay I intended to send to NYU...it didn't seem to bother them and I got accepted anyway.

so if I 'say' that I will apply for financial aid and don't do anything pass the financial aid deadline they will automatically ignore that fact and just treat my application the same way? I'm just worried because I'm international, non citizen. Hope they got my email and fax about changing it.

@atrophicwhisper: if it makes you feel any better:

To me, "nondiscrimination" seems to just say "I do not support discrimination" whereas "antidiscrimination" screams "I despise any discrimination whatsoever! I will actively fight it in every corner of life!" :)
