To be frank, outside of HYP most Ivies have pretty crappy international aid policies. Only Dartmouth comes close. I don’t have hard stats but I remember seeing a ranking about the best colleges with aid for internationals and Dartmouth was up there in the top 5 with Harvard. I’d say that’s your best bet.

So, is there really no safe Ivy to apply to as an international? Is there one place that if I applied ED and didn’t get aid it would come as a shock? (is Dartmouth this place?)

If there are any internationals on here, where do you plan to apply ED if you do?

Dartmouth (the hick-town location is a concern though) or Columbia.

I’m all the way in for Cornell, with a specific scholarship to my country the chances sound much higher than that of Columbia, anyway I would rather ED at Cornell, where the ED acceptance rate is much higher compared to it’s RD rate, while at Columbia the rate is very similar.

^hm, seems wise but there aren’t any scholarships for Canadians at these schools (at least I believe there aren’t).

Actually, Cornell’s difference between RD and RD acceptance is 10%. But the rate is 31%, which is high.

Dartmouth’s almost triples…13%---->35%. UPenn’s doubles: 17%—>34%.

Columbia’s, however, only goes from 11% to 19%.

^ Those stats are old ^

If you cant go to Cornell due to financial decisions if accepted ED, then you dont have to go I think.

Yeah but it’s hard to do; they don’t just let you break the ED contract. They try to make you. You literally have to prove you can’t pay. And that wastes the opportunity to apply ED to a school you KNOW you’ll get good aid from and benefit from the higher ED acceptance rate.

the admission to cornell, whether ed or rd, is basically no guaranteed financial aid. so you really have to think twice of the ed

@viggy and suzalicious, any idea as to how many kids get the tata scholarship? does it help if ur parents have an annual income below $60,000?

I thought financial aid is a legit reason to opt out of ED.

it isnt?? ^10 char

actually, if you appeal and Cornell doesnt change, Cornell does put inadequate FA as a legit reason to opt out of ED. I have never heard about this actually happening though

I thought Upenn is need-blind to Canadians and meets full-need as well?
