Worst College Names

Let's have some light-hearted fun.

My nominees:

Salisbury State (everytime I hear it I think of a salisbury steak)
The College of New Jersey (sounds kind of vague, doesn't it?)

let's hear them

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/69302-colleges-best-worst-names.html

Already a thread for this.

Doesn’t that apply to every state college then? Florida? Michigan? Tennessee?

Transylvania and Skidmore always get my votes.

Brigham Young (“Bring em Young”)
AND the fact its in Utah.

^no doubt the most pedophile sounding school name on earth.

the college of wooster sounds ■■■■■■■■. and why would you want to attend a school that shares a name with a toothpaste, colgate?

Grinnell
Goucher
Haverford (Everyone thinks you’re going to Harvard)
Pomona (Everyone thinks you are going to the state school)

Colgate since it’s linked with a toothpaste, Rice - food

Tufts (sounds like there are just little clumps of hair or something)

Wartburg College

Ursinus College.

Binghamton. I just hate that word. To me, it sounds like someone scratching their nails on a chalkboard…in word form.

Austin Peay

the best part is they used to have a basketball player whose last name was fly. swear to god. their chant was “the fly’s open, now let’s go peay!”

Hey, there’s nothing wrong with good old Binghamton.

St. Olaf always makes me giggle because I grew up watching The Golden Girls with my mom.

Kalamazoo is also pretty funny, though I’m not sure if it’s in a way that makes it bad or makes it awesome. Sometimes there is a fine line.

Humboldt State U…it just sounds a little funny

I have to agree about Binghampton…it is a strange word

Ahh! There’s no p in Binghamton! I’m from the area and it makes me nuts when people pronounce and spell it that way.

Lesson:

Binghamton is (roughly) pronounced Bing-um-ton.

Albeit, I do recognize it’s a weird name. I just wouldn’t say it’s something that we need to kill with fire.

I’ve always liked the name Binghamton. It sounds very… collegiate to me. And it’s better than some of the other SUNYs. (Oswego, Potsdam, Oneonta… ugh.)

Ball state

Tufts - good thing I’m not really interested in the school anyway, because I refuse to apply due to its name.
Colgate - toothpaste. No.
St. Olaf - I read A Series of Unfortunate Events before I heard about this college. Enough said.

Christopher Newport University

…**** christopher newport.
