Yeah, but the Drake Relays is just about it. Geez- the place is in Des Moines, for one thing. That’s 3 strikes right there. (and we have Penn Relays and Texas Relays and the Pre Classic)

AU is a pretty intense place these days (my d. is graduating this year after 3 years, and is using her fourth to do an M.S. in accounting.) Half the student body are double majors. A majority of the student body do internships during term, all over town. PR says it is the most politically active campus in the country. My sense is that students drive themselves pretty hard. Only a third of the students major in the liberal arts - most of the students are one way or another career-directed in business, communications, public affairs, or international service. (That’s what distinguishes it from GW and Georgetown where the majority of students are in the liberal arts, and in the sciences.)

Is it a fit for your son? A visit will help tell. But I can tell you that it is massively different than it was 30 years ago.

If you look at the videos and materials from the Wonk campaign, you’ll find that it captures AU very well.

This isn’t a PR campaign, but I always find Lawrence University’s poster heading to be funny. It’s similar to this:

Lawrence
(the university, not some random guy)

lgreen,

Okay, that’s just funny.

They must sell alot of tshirts and sweatshirts. ;)

Isnt that like Ball State University, who had shirts that said “Ball U”

Mini-- which AU are you referring to? Auburn? American?

*** Forgot to mention-- I just sent a b’day card that had on the front a picture of Drs and nurses and a receptionist answering the phone. Across the top it said “Urology Dept” and the caption of the person answering the phone said “Urology dept, can you hold?”
My kind of humor

(inside it said something like " Relax and go with the flow on your birthday")

Two and a half. Remember, it’s only a half-hour from Ames.

I have a wonderful picture of myself and nine other girlfriends on a trip to NYC, all proudly sporting Bob Jones University t-shirts…
BJU -

what were they thinking?

Too funny, AL34. We want copies of that picture!

American U. Wonks!

AL34 - Along with your BJU shirts you can get some FU shirts from Fairfield Univ. Or Fordham, or I’m sure a lot of other schools.

Then there’s the Univ of South Carolina Gamecocks - or the '**, as they are known. I’m sure folks in SC are used to it, but I saw a guy with a hat at a religious festival here in MA and the woman next to me was horrified - I had to explain it to her.

edit - CC won’t even let me type it! It’s Gamecocks without the “game.” Wow, great mascot. (And yes, I am a Clemson fan).

Fordham doesn’t have FU shirts anymore. They were, um, outlawed (?)

Surely some bootlegger still makes them. They’d sell like hotcakes, wouldn’t they?
