Worst Financial Aid..?

Hey guys,

I have a pretty good shot at michigan but I fear that the financial aid for out-of-state is horrible. Thus I may just waste time doing the app and end up not going.

If you really love U of M, apply. Apply early so you will get considered for scholarships. Keep in mind that you may not be able to attend for financial reasons. This is what my D did. She was accepted...and given very generous aid. She, too, is out-of-state. We never thought it would be possible. She starts in September. Give it a try.

I think Michigan is fairly stingy when awarding financial aid to students that belong to families in the upper-middle class+ range, but they give generous awards to families that don't fair as well.

other inputs?

Michigan is actually quite generous when it comes to aid. Not amazingly so, but not "worst" either. Given you handle, I assume you have a 2400 on your SAT. If that is the case, and you come from a middle income family or lower middle income family, your chances at getting a good financial aid package are actually very good. But if you come from a high income family, Michigan, like most top 10 universities, will not give you much in terms of aid. It may still give you some, but it will not bed significant.
